The Dante Alighieri Society of British Columbia

For the promotion of Italian language and culture

"Portrait of Dante Alighieri" by Sandro Botticelli (1495).

Welcome to "La Dante" BC!

Better known as "La Dante", The Dante Alighieri Society is a non-profit organization, headquartered in Rome, whose mission is to foster Italian language and culture by:

  • Developing an appreciation of Italian achievements in the arts, literature, science, and industry
  • Promoting the study of the Italian language
  • Enhancing a spirit of understanding among people through the arts and other cultural activities.

The Dante Alighieri Society of British Columbia is one of the four hundred such organizations located outside of Italy. Our chapter's objective is to offer a program of talks, musical events, courses of Italian language (through the Dante Italian Language School in Vancouver) and more informal gatherings on Italian culture that members, friends and students are most welcome to attend.

The Dante Alighieri Society also organizes the PLIDA  Certification Tests to evaluate an individual’s linguistic competencies in Italian. The Plida Certificate is recognized by the Italian government for immigration/work purposes and it has the academic approval of the Sapienza University of Rome.
