“Coffee, Moms and a Touch of Italy”
An evening with la Dante Alighieri Society of BC
(Tuesday, November 29 2016, 6.30-8.30 pm)

The Board of the Dante Society of BC is writing to invite you to our society’s first Annual General Meeting, to be held on Tuesday,

29 November from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.  The location is Room B of the Roundhouse Community Centre, 181 Roundhouse Mews, at the corner of Davie Street and Pacific Boulevard.  Metered parking is generally available on the surrounding streets, and there is an underground parking lot on Davie Street beside the Urban Fare store.  The Yaletown-Roundhouse Skytrain station is 100 metres away on Davie Street.
At 7.30 pm, after the formal AGM, we will have some guest speakers. We’d like to call this part of the evening “Coffee, Moms and a Touch of Italy” or, alternatively, “Espresso Coffee: Our Liquid Sunshine”.
Brian Turko of Milano Coffee (, winner of ten International Coffee Tasting Awards (the coffee competition from the International Institute of Coffee Tasters), will give a talk on the history of  espresso coffee and the role of coffee culture across the world.
Brian’s talk will be followed by a roundtable on coffee shops, culture, & nurturing with a group of Italian moms, all members of the group "Italian Moms in Vancouver”. You can find them on Facebook if you want to prepare!!
Then we will share some  light refreshments and some conversation to end our evening.
At the meeting you will have a chance to renew your membership in the Dante BC for 2017.  The funds that we collect from memberships are used by the Society to advance our mission of promoting the language and culture of Italy.  You will see from the Financial Statements that not one penny of the funds is used for salaries;  all of our work is by volunteers.  Your membership confirms our common enthusiasm for the promotion of “l’Italianità". Dues are $30 annually, payable by cash or cheque.   You will receive your new membership card and, if you will be visiting Italy next year, a Dante membership card that gives discounts at famous museums, theatres and events in Italy. Here is a list of places where the discount is available:
Finally, if you wish to contribute in another way, we are looking for members who would like to participate in a committee to organize and promote our cultural events.  If you would like to help, please speak to Arianna Dagnino, one of our directors, at the meeting, or send us an email at
We look forward to seeing you the 29th.

Please feel free to bring a friend (if you are not interested in the AGM you can show up at 7.30 pm).
Yours sincerely,
Tom Henry
for the Dante Society of BC
P.S. we would be grateful if you would RSVP to by Friday 25 November so we can better plan for attendance and refreshments.
