•  "Carpe Diem! Learn Latin in your everyday English” (in English)
Interested in learning some Latin along with the Latin etymologies of many English words?
Italian comes from the language of the ancient Romans, of course, but while English is not a direct descendant, the English language is also filled with words and phrases borrowed directly or indirectly from Latin.
The joy of Latin and its secret life. This 6 week class is designed for those who would welcome an introduction to one of the world’s most influential ancient languages.  We will learn the basic structures of Latin, but will take time to explore many of the Latin phrases and words which are in common English use, as well as the Latin sources of some surprisingly “everyday” English.
No textbook is required; all materials will be provided.

Instructor: Gwyneth Lewis

Professor Lewis is a Faculty Emerita from Langara College, where she taught Latin, Greek and Latin Roots of English, and Greek and Roman history and culture in the Langara College Department of History, Latin, and Political Studies for 25 wonderful years.

She has given many well received public lectures on aspects of the Greek and Roman world at the former Langara College Lecture series, and continues to give occasional lectures to Classical Studies students.
