Italia al Microscopio

Level 5

Italia al Microscopio is a comprehensive course offering an in-depth look at contemporary Italian society. Students will explore Italy’s transformation from a nation of emigration to a multicultural society, addressing key issues like organized crime, gender equality, LGBTQIA+ rights, environmental disasters, and overtourism. The course also delves into Italian identity through television, focusing on the Festival di Sanremo, and examines the global influence of Made in Italy in fashion, design, and cuisine. Replacing our former Advanced 2 and 3 courses, Italia al Microscopio will help students reach a B1 level, providing both linguistic growth and a deeper cultural understanding of Italy’s modern challenges and achievements.

Please note that Italia al Microscopio will focus primarily on speaking skills to help you engage in real-world conversations, with less emphasis on grammar. While grammar will still be covered, the course is designed to prioritize practical speaking ability.

Course Description

During this course, you will cover the last five chapters of DIECI B1.

Students will deepen their grammatical and cultural knowledge of the Italian language. They will explore the future tense, conditional, and passive voice, as well as the subjunctive mood and indirect speech. These grammatical tools allow students to express hypotheses, wishes, and hypothetical situations. Cultural themes include Italian food traditions, regional specialties, the role of media in society, and significant political and historical events. The course also highlights Italian cinema and its global impact, providing students with both linguistic growth and a broader understanding of Italy's cultural landscape.

At the end of the course, you will have reached the B1 level in Italian.
