“The Russia-Ukraine War & the Wrecking of the Liberal World Order” Saturday, 24 September 2022, 12.00 pm-1.00 pm (PDT/Vancouver Time); 3.00 pm-6.00 pm (Eastern Time/Toronto Time); 9.00 pm-10.00 pm (Italian Time/Rome Time) In English – Online via Zoom
What does the Russian invasion of Ukraine tell us about the collapse of the liberal world order? Prof. Vittorio Parsi, Director of the High School in International Studies at the Cattolica University in Milan, will propose his interpretation of the current events in the light of his most recent book, The Wrecking of the Liberal World Order (Springer, 2022).
The Dante Alighieri Society of BC, in collaboration with the
Institute of Italian Culture Toronto, invites you to a web talk by
Prof. Vittorio Emanuele Parsi
About the event: Emerged as a project aiming to harmonize state sovereignty and the market, through the promotion of liberal democracy domestically, and free trade and economic cooperation internationally, the LWO (Liberal World Order) was hijacked in the 1980s: market forces overshadowed democratic forces, thus disfiguring the LWO into a Neoliberal Global Order. The book advocates for a revival of its original intellectual premises, that in the aftermath of World War II marked the zenith of political modernity. About the speaker:
Vittorio Emanuele Parsi is Professor of International Relations at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. He is the Director of ASERI (Postgraduate School of Economics and International Relations) and the Program Director of the Master's course in Economics and International Policies (joint venture between ASERI and USI). He is Professor of International Relations, Faculty of Economics, University of Lugano (USI – Lugano, Switzerland).
