The Dante Alighieri Society of British Columbia

The Dante Alighieri Society of BC is one of the 400 chapters located outside of Italy. The headquarters is in Rome.

We administer the PLIDA Certification Tests to evaluate an individual’s linguistic competencies in Italian.

We offer online courses at all levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced.

Our Instructors

Our instructors are all native speakers, experienced and highly qualified.

Our Schedules

Classes meet once a week for 11 weeks. Summer, Fall, Spring, Winter sessions.

Book Club

Each month we discuss - in Italian - an Italian book. The book club is free and open to anyone.

Each month we discuss - in English - an Italian movie. The cineclub is free and open to anyone.


PLIDA Certification Tests assess Italian  as a foreign or second language. Every year thousands of candidates throughout the world test their language competence and obtain the PLIDA Certificate, which is recognized by the Italian Government and accepted globally in order to:


  • File for Italian citizenship.

  • Request a long term residence permit for Italy .

  • Enrol in Italian universities without sitting an entry exam.

  • Show proof of your Italian language competence in your CV.


Your membership fee helps the Society’s volunteers to promote and organize language courses, maintain the website, carry out administrative duties, organize cultural events and clubs, promote its activities.

Your donations help to keep the Society alive and the

events free of charge.
